1737- My sixth great grandparents, David Potts & Ann Roberts, are married in Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Ann was David's second wife, a woman of dark complexion, and was familiarly known as "Nancy." His first wife, Elizabeth Jane Lane, had died in 1735.

The marriage was accomplished in a manner "contrary to Discipline of Friends," and on January 26, 1733, they made an acknowledgement for their, "Disorderly Walking," which was accepted. "Disorderly walking" was a term that was used to cover a multitude of infractions, including fornication and having out-of wedlock children.This shows that Susanna was also a Friend, but her maiden name is not given. They resided in Bristol Township.
"It is agreed in the unity of freinds that all professing the truth, who have or shalbee guilty of any disorderly walkinge by which the name of the Lord comes to bee dishonour'd, shalbee by a particular paper for every such disorderly walking, condemned publiquely by freinds; if so bee they who are or may be concern'd shall refuse after foure or five exhortacions & admonitions, according to the good order of the gosple, to give forth a publick testimony, under their hands by which such particular disorderly practices shalbee judged & condemned."

James Lewis is born to James Lewis & Sarah Potts in Pottsgrove, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
About 1728 Thomas Penn appears to have been engaged in business of some sort in London, and to have had a partner. He writes to his brother John Penn, April 26 of that year, and signs the letter " Thomas Penn and Company;" in it he speaks of " my business on partnership, of which I some time since acquainted thee."

David Potts marries Elizabeth Jane Lane, a daughter of Edward Lane of Perkioman, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Perkiomen was in the neighborhood of Gilberts Manor, and the Lanes and Jonas Potts family did not live far apart. 1726- Alice Lukens dies at the age of 40 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
(Alice Lukens is my 1st cousin nine times removed. Our common ancestors are Mathias Dohrs and Agnes Neesen op den Graeff.)
1726- Madtis Conders, second son of Thones Kunders, dies in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
I, Mathias Cunrade of German Township in the County of Philadelphia in the Province of Pensilvania, husbandman, being sick in body but of sound and perect mind and memory, praises be given to God for the same, this twenty ninth day of the eight month in the year One Thousand seven hundred twenty five doe make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following hereby revoking all other Wills heretofore by me made.
Imp I will That all my Just Debts and funeral expenses paid and dischared by my Executrix hereafter named. Item I give and bequeath out of my personal Estate the sum of Eight pounds to my beloved wife as a particular free gift.
Item I give divise and bequeath my land and plantation whereupon I now dwell with allits appurtenances whatsovever contain Abt one hundred and fifty accers of Land more or less to be sold by my trusty and loving bro. John Cunrad of Upper Dublin & my bro: Henry of ------------------- together with my wife or by the Survivor or survivors of them and make good title thereof to the buyer & to their heirs forever to the only and proper wife, one third part of the purchase or value of the said land when sold, to my wife during her life; and After her decease to be divided by her among my children viz: Anthony, Margaret, Cornelius, Magdalen, William, John and Mathias or among the survivors of them. And the other two thirds of my said land and plantation be sold for to be equally divided among my said children or among the surviviors of them when sold.
Item It is my will That my personal Estate be divided among my wife and my said children reserving to my wife her third thereof and the remaider viz the two thirds part of my sd personal estat to be equally divided among my children, but if any happen to die after dividend be made, & before such attain tothe age of one and Twenty, or be married it is my Will and Desire that my Wife and children may live peacably and lovinly together on my plantation, and that my children be maintained out of the profits therof during their minority. 1734 Virginia
1734- Quakers arrive in Loudoun County, Virginia, settling to the southward. This untamed wilderness was settled from two directions. From Virginia's Tidewater came farm managers, slaves, and indentured servants working for the aristocracy. They came to develop tobacco farms in the piedmont plain of Eastern Loudoun. From the Shenandoah Valley and from Pennsylvania came the Quakers, Germans, and Scots-Irish who wished to start small farms. They chose the west, near the mountains, in the Loudoun and Catoctin Valleys where the soil was good and the climate congenial.
