1740- My fourth great granduncle, William Drury, has been born to John Drury & Susannah Hayden in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

My fourth great granduncle, Joseph Newton, is born to Clement & Elizabeth Newton in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

My fourth great granduncle, Arnold Livers, son of Arnold & Helen, is assigned to St. Francis Xavier in Newtown, St. Mary's County, where he received his final vows in 1742. Arnold was a Jesuit Priest.



My fifth great grandaunt, Elizabeth Robey, dies at the age of 50, in Charles County, Maryland. The daughter of John Robey & Sarah Hines Luckett, she was the wife of John Henley. Her husband apparently died the same year.

William Robey and Mary Alexander are married in Charles County, Maryland.

William Luckett and Charity Middleton, the daughter of Captain John Middleton & Mary Wheeler, are married in Prince George's County, Maryland. They settled in what would become the new county of Frederick on the western slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Charity and her husband were given by her parents, "for natural love and affection", the tracts "Thomas and Mary" and "Wilson's Enlargement", containing 195 acres in Prince Georges County.
In about 1725, as an orphan, William Luckett had been placed under the care of James Middleton, uncle of Charity Middleton, by court orders to learn a profitable trade or profession. It was the custom of that day in Maryland to apprentice children whose paternal parent was deceased and whose estate was either insolvent or negligible with planters or merchants in order that the orphans may not become public charges.
In 1728, James Middleton was summoned by the court and censured for "neglecting to teach William Luckett to read and write". William, however, later became quite proficient in letters, because many documents written by him and signed are still preserved at the court house of Frederick County.

November 16, 1733- Winifred Tant, widow of Vitus Herbert, dies at the age of 31 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. Winifred was born in St. Mary's in 1702, the daughter of John Tant & Margaret Drury. Her 4 year-old son, William Herbert, dies the same year.

Testatrix states that her husband,--- by his will bequeathed his lands to be equally divided amongst his three sons William, Joseph and Vitus and the same bequests for want of due words only gives his younger sons Joseph and Vitus an estate for life therein. To correct this testatrix desires that each of sons Joseph and Vitus may have an equal share in lands left them by their father.
To son Joseph, one share of personal estate on condition he make over to his brother Vitus and hrs., when of age, one share of the land he shall inherit by his father's will or as heir to his brother William, deceased.
" Elizabeth Wallis, an orphan girl, her freedom, dues and personalty when she comes to age, on condition she claims nothing for schooling promised her by husband, ---.
" sons Joseph and Vitus, entire personal estate, except as before disposed of, when they come to age of 21; son Joseph to care of Rev. Peter Atwood, son Vitus to Rev. Thomas Gerard; should either son die during minority or without issue survivor to inherit portion of deceased; should both die as afsd., entire personal estate to Rd. Thompson for use of sister Susannah Thompson during her life.

April 22, 1726- Mary Tant has died in St. Mary's County, Maryland. Mary was born to John Tant & Margaret Drury in St. Mary's. She married John Manning, he died in 1716. There is evidence that her 19-year-old son Mark died in 1726, and that his mother Mary had already died.

February 1, 1726- Margaret Drury dies at the age of 70 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. Mary was born about 1656. In 1683, she married John Tant, who received the tract "Dry Docking" in a transfer of land from Robert Drury, Margaret's father. This may have been Margaret's dowry. 
John Tant died in 1702, leaving Margaret a widow pregnant with their last child, Susanna. Margaret served as executrix for her husband's estate.
In 1707 Margaret was in possession of 50 acres of "Noble's Victor" (which had been patented to John Noble), 70 acres of "Revell," 100 acres of "Revells Backside" and the lands owned by her late husband. "Dry Docking" had become the property of her son James Tant.


Will: Tant, Margrett. 24th Dec., 1725; 1st Feb., 1725-6.

To grandson Marke Lampton, £15 and personalty at age of 21.
To grandson William Thompson, £15 at age of 21; shd. he die during minority, sd. legacy to pass to his bro. Henry.
To Rev. Francis Loyd,, 40s.
To grandson John Manning, personalty; he dying during minority, to pass to 2 grandsons Joseph and Vitus Harbert and their hrs.

Before December 24, 1725- Richard Thompson and Susanna Tant are married in St. Mary's County, Maryland.
A Richard Thompson is listed as a County Justice for St. Mary's County from 1730-1733. County Justices kept a register of births, marriages and burials. They received a payment of five pounds of tobacco for these services.
County Justices also oversaw road building, courthouses, jails, and taxes. They appointed guardians for orphans, and kept an eye on the relationships between masters and servants.

After 1725- Mary Neale dies at the age of 26 in Calvert County, Maryland. Mary was born about 1699 in St. Mary's County. Her parents were James Neale & Elizabeth Lord. At the age of 16, she married Michael Taney.
