March 1, 1738- (Charles County Land Records) The deposition of Edward Gillins, age about 37, who says that about 1 year ago, this deponent heard Mr. Benjamin Neale say his father told him that if he should die, there was no one living that could prove either the bounds of Slingsbeys Land, Gills, or Russells, but Mr. William Thompson. And further, this deponent says that Mr. Benjamin Neale told him that he supposed that the bounds of Slingsbeys stood in the sycamore thicket.

The Worland Family in America and Beyond
I began my life in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, on an island filled with forests and wild rhododendrons. I was separated from my Worland family there at an early age. Recently, I was reunited with my family and learned of my heritage. And so, this journey to know my ancestors began. The Worlands, Gideons, Newtons, Conards... they were the colonists, the settlers, the pioneers. They fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War. This is their story, and the story of a nation. -Deci Worland MacKinnon

| Wollaston Manor |
April 16, 1730- James Neale, son of James Neale & Elizabeth Lord, dies at the age of 41 at "Wollaston Manor", in Charles County, Maryland.
James Neale, a Catholic, lived at "Wollaston Manor", on 1000 acres located near the confluence of St. James Creek and St. Raphael Creek in Charles County. He had inherited this part of the manor from his father, Captain James Neale. Wollaston Manor was made up of 2,000 acres patented in 1642 to Captain James Neale and was named for his Grandfather's home in Northamptonshire, England. Neale's wife, Anne Gill, was Lady-in-waiting to the wife of Charles I, Queen Henrietta Maria.
The following description is taken from THE DAVID RANKIN BARBEE PAPERS:
"If one had the privilege of choosing the spot where he wished to be born, he could find none more attractive than Wolleston Manor. Long ago the old manor house was destroyed by fire, and not a vestige of it remains to tell its story.
The site where once it reared its lofty walls still exists -a small plain fronting the majestic Potomac for a mile or more, and presenting a vista of such rare natural beauty and splendor as to have no compeer on either side of that noble stream. Standing on the spot where the manor was erected in the early days of the Seventeenth Century, to the left, as one looks out on the river, lies a grove of primeval oaks..."

1714, Burial place of Susannah Maria Lowe
On the north side of the road leading from Oakville to Forest Wharf is a part of Fenwick's Manor, which was presumably the estate of Henry Lowe, as his wife [Susannah Maria Bennett] is buried there.
Her gravestone, a heavy flat slab, bears a record worth preserving, but unless something is done to protect it from the ravages of time and neglect, it, too, before long, will be a thing of the past. The date, 1714, places it amongst the oldest memorials of the eighteenth century. The inscription runs:
Here Lyeth interred the Body of Susannah Maria Lowe, Late wife of Henry Lowe of the Family of the Bennetts, who departed this life the 28th Day of July 1714 in the 48th year of her age.
-Taken from Historic Graves of Maryland and the District of Columbia: With the Inscriptions Appearing on the Tombstones in Most of the Counties of the State and in Washington and Georgetown
by Helen West Ridgely, National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Maryland.
It was published in 1908.
At the time of Susannah's death, her husband Colonel Henry Lowe was the county clerk of St. Mary's. He was a nephew of Lady Jane Baltimore, and was appointed by the governer.
The position of clerk was a lucrative one with income derived from fees for the recording of various documents. In addition to these fees, the clerk received a salary of 2,000 pounds of tobacco for public services such as issuing warrants. So, it seems that Susannah was an important woman in her community.
