1743: My fourth great granduncle, George Hardy, assumes property of his father, William Hardy. He is 26 years old.
His father had died August 16, 1740, and had stated in his will, "son George to be Exec and to take the five youngest children to keare (sic) for them until they are of age.." The four youngest were raised under his care, Mary Anne was raised by Elizabeth Hogging.

I, George Hardey, son of William Hardy of PG, planter, have, in consideration of bringing up the orphans of William Hardey, decd, and paying sd orphans their parts of the estate left them by their father's will in goods, chattels, or current money of Maryland by George Hardey Sr of PG, I have transferred to myself, a Negro woman named Ann, a pair of hand mill stones, 2 feather beds, 1 flock bed, 3 iron pots, 5 pewter dishes, 12 pewter plates, I gray horse, 1 bay horse, I bay mare, 4 cows & 2 heifers, and 2 calves, 18 hogs, all of which were part of the estate & effects of Wrn Hardey, lately decd, which came to my hands as executor of sd William Hardy. William Hardy, son of George Hardy & Elizabeth Drane, marries Elizabeth Lanham, daughter of Richard Lanham & Winifred Jenkins. A daughter, Verlinda, is born later that year in Prince George's County, Maryland.

A son, Arnold, is born to Thomas Newton & Susannah Howard in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

 A son, Thomas Darnall Stevens, is born to William Stevens & Rebecca Darnall in Maryland.

A daughter, Anne, is born to John Raley & Mary Heard in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

Michael Taney, son of Michael Taney & Mary Neale, marries Jane Doyne, daughter of Ignatius Doyne & Elizabeth Craycroft.

August 21, 1739- The following document is signed by my sixth great grandmother, Sarah Hines Luckett, widow of John Robey. She is believed to have died shortly thereafter, at about age 71.
Her daughter Sarah Elizabeth, wife of Edward Darnall, dies the same year, at the age of 50.

Deed of Gift. Recorded Aug 21, 1739. I, SARAH ROBY of Charles Co., hereby make over to William Robey, son of Benjamin Robey of Charles Co., planter (after my death) 1 feather bed and furniture, viz, 1 silk rug, 1 blanket, and 1 pair of sheets, together with a bedstead and hide and cord. And also I hereby make over to Victoria Robey, daughter of the above mentioned Benjamin Robey, 1 4-gallon pot and pot hooks after my death. Signed Aug 18, 1739 - SARAH ROBY . Wit - Walter Hanson, Thomas Troughear, John Hanson Jr.

Sarah was born in 1668, daughter of Samuel Luckett & Elizabeth Hussey. At the age of 16, she married John Robey in Charles County, Maryland. John was 20 years her senior, and a farmer of tobacco. John had been born at Castle Donington, Leichestershire, England, and in 1681, had recieved a grant of land from the state assembly of Maryland. John died April 23, 1726. That year, the following document was filed by her family, releasing her financially. Signer John Wornell, is my fifth great grandfather, John Worland, husband of Sarah's daughter, Stacy. Spellings Wornell, Warnell, Warland and Worland all appear in documents of the time.

We discharge Sarah Roby of Charles Co., the relict of John Roby Sr, late of CC, now decd, from all legacies that may or shall be due from the sd Sarah Roby to us on the acct or estate of sd John Roby. May 13, 1735- John Darnall dies at the age of 30 in St. James Parish, Charles County, Maryland. He drowned while crossing the Patuxent River.
The son of Edward Darnall & Sarah Robey, he was born in Charles County in 1705. He received two grants of land: 100 acres in the "Manor of Zachia" in Charles County and "Darnall's Delight", on August 5, 1726.
He died intestate and his estate was inventoried May 13, 1735. The inventory was signed by Sam Middleton and J. Smith. Edward and Thomas Darnall being named as nearest of kin. Rachel Darnell administered the estate July 16,1735. The names of John and Rachel were spelled Darnell, of Edward and Thomas, Darnoll. Three children were mentioned but not named in the settlement of the estate.

St. Thomas Manor, St. Ignatius

1734- My sixth great grandmother, Elizabeth Mockbee Nicholls, dies at the age of 65 in Prince George's County, Maryland. She is the widow of Anthony Drane, and the daughter of William Nicholls & Mary Mockbee. She inherited "Brock Hall" from Captain Edward Brock , her grandfather, in 1712. Her husband Anthony bought parcels of land from William Nichols & John Darnall in the years 1700 to 1712. After the death of her husband in 1723, she ran the plantation.with the help of her son James.

Recorded at request of Thomas Draine, 9 Nov 1734:

Deed of gift from Elizabeth Drane, widow, for love to my 3 children, James, Rachel and Thomas; and to granddaughter Rebekah Drane; mentions Negro named Peter;  3 Aug 1734; /s/ Elizabeth Drane (mark); witnesses: Joseph Ray, Brock Mockbee, William Smith.

 By the 1730s, my fifth great grandfather, Arnold Livers, had purchased several tracts of land in the Monocacy area of what would become Frederick County, Maryland. Backland was a large tract of 5,000 acres originally patented to John Digges in 1732 and a part was patented to Arnold Livers in 1734.
This patent consisted of 1649 acres and was called Arnold's Delight. It was located to the east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and north of what today is Thurmont. This tract extended north to Mount St. Mary's near Emmitsburg.
Arnold's Delight became the second home for the Livers family. It was located on Owens Creek and was known as the Livers Quarters.

My fourth great granduncle, Anthony Livers, is born to Arnold Livers & Mary Ann Drane in Prince George's County, Maryland. His half brother, Arnold Livers, son of Arnold and Helen Gordon, was a Jesuit priest. In 1734, Arnold arrives in Maryland and is assigned to St. Thomas Manor in Charles County. He administered to the Catholics of Boone's Chapel in Prince George's County, Conewago Chapel in Pennsylvania, and later at the Elder chapel at the home of his sister, Jacoba Clementina Livers Elder, in Emmitsburg, Frederick County.

My fourth great aunt, Elizabeth Hardy, is born to William Hardy & Ann Stimson in Prince George's County, Maryland.

My fifth great granduncle, Richard Robey, marries Ann Barton in Charles County, Maryland.

 My fifth great granduncle, Edward Knott, dies at the age of 69 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. He is the son of Francis Knott & Eleanore Cole.
His brother, James Knott, dies the same year at the age of 67.

January 9, 1727- My sixth great grandfather, Solomon Stimson, dies at the age of 46 in Prince George's County, Maryland. Solomon was an Episcopalian Minister, in Rock Creek Parish, Maryland.

Solomon was born in Reading, Middlesex, Massachusetts in March, 1681 to James Stimson & Hannah Stearns. Solomon, father-in-law of William Hardy, was a resident of Prince George's County, Maryland, as early as March 1699 and had settled on the northwest bank of Piscataway branch about 2 miles west of Cheltenham when Colonel Henry Darnall's manor, His Lordship's Kindness, was surveyed October 10, 1701.
In 1715, he married Elizabeth Finch, daughter of Guy & Rebecca Finch. Elizabeth was the widow of William Elder. After Solomon's death, Elizabeth went on to marry Peter Hoggins.
It is my belief that Solomon was also previously married, as daughter Annie was born prior to his marriage to Elizabeth. However, I have not yet found a record of the previous marriage.

In Solomon STIMTON's will dated 9 Jan 1726/7 [Prince Georges county Will Book 19, pages 67, 68] states: "…I give & bequeath unto my Son in Law Willm Elder one Cow & Calfe. I give & bequeath unto my Son in Law Thomas Elder one Cow & Calfe. …" On 20 April 1727 "came Eliza Stimson and made oath…" as to the appraisal of the Stimton estate which included among other items: "3 negrows, 1 man, 1 dito woman, 1 dito girl; 25 head of cattle, young & old; 53 head of hogs, young & old, two feather beds,…" [Prince Georges County Inventories Box 7, 25]

October 16, 1714- William Elder, the first husband of Elizabeth Finch, has died.
William Elder was a Quaker immigrant from Lancashire, England.

William and Elizabeth had married in 1705. They lived on a 50-acre tract of land called "Beale's Goodwill" which Elizabeth had inherited from her family. This land was originally within the boundaries of Calvert county, and is today a little east of the Oxen Hill/Clinton area near Rosaryville State Park. "Beale's Goodwill" contained 100 acres, and Elizabeth's sister, Mary (Finch) Beavan, wife of Charles Beavan, resided on the other 50 acres. Goodwill was located north of and adjoined the home plantation of Arnold Livers, known as Timberly.
William Elder's estate was listed in the Maryland Prerogative Court [Inv. & Acct. 36A folio 198; 36C folio 42].The appraisers were listed as Thomas Blanford, and Soloman Stimson. These documents were also signed by: Charles Beavan "Kindred"; Henry Darnalb "Creditor"; and Henry Culver "Kindred."
The accounting of Elizabeth Elder [36C folio 42] shows: "Eliz.a Elder adminx of all & singular goods & chattels & credits of Wm Elder late of Prince Georges county dec'd."
The accounting included money from: Edward Diggs, Capt. Thomas Clegat and Paul Hoye: credits to: Henry Darnell, Luke Gardiner, Capt. Thomas Clegat, Henry Culver, Jn. Boye, Thomas Williams, John Miller, Benjamin Berry and Jacob Jones.
Elizabeth would go on to take Solomon Stimson as her second husband.

1751 Maryland

1751- Sarah Newton is born to Thomas Newton and Susannah Howard in St. Mary's, Maryland.

(Sarah Newton and I are 1st cousins 6 times removed.)

June 11, 1751- Arnold Livers dies at Prince George's, Maryland.
 Arnold Livers was born about 1669 in Flanders, Belgium, of English parentage, and was reared in the royal household of the Stuarts. At age 22, he was a "page of the backstairs".
Soon after the Catholic King James II was deposed in 1688, Arnold is said to have fled, landing in Maryland with only his uniform, buckles & buttons (which are still preserved by his family), leaving his two children by his first wife behind.
 These sons were reportedly brought to America by his first American wife who went to Flanders to get them as Arnold was afraid to go himself.
 Arnold served as an indentured servant to Colonel Henry Darnall, a tailor. He settled on the Charles River near Upper Marlborough in Prince George's County as a planter.
 He died in 1751 at Prince George's County, Maryland.

August 28, 1751- Will of Arnold Livers


My land: one tract called Duke's Wood," lying in Prince George's Co., but now in Frederick Co., on Linganore, of 500 A.; other called "Arnold's Chance," lying on Little Pipe Creek, containing about 500 A; one lot in Nottingham; one in Marlborough, Prince George's Co., which 2 lots I give to extx, hereafter named, to be sold and money used to pay debts.

Tract called "Arnold's Delight," in Frederick Co., 1,074 A., to children: Anthony, Arnold, Mary and Rachel, to be equally divided bet. them.

To son Robert Livers, all those several tracts I formerly bought of Col. Henry Darnall and John Miller, and all that pt. formerly given me by Henry Darnall, Esquire, lately dec'd., of about: 330 A. known as the plantation where I live.

To grand-son Arnold Elder, 100 A. called "Cole's Good Will," adjoining Wm. Elder's plantation.

To grand-dau. Ann Livers, dau. of son James Livers, 50 pounds money at age 21, by my children: Anthony, Arnold, Robert, Mary and Rachel Livers, each to pay 10 pounds.

My will and intention is that my dear wife Helena Livers, have same during widowhood.

To grand-dau. Eliza. Elder, some slaves.

To dau. Jacoba Clementina Elder, furnishings.

Friend Didley Digges, trustee and overseer, and give him for sd. services, 5 pounds money.
