The Worland Family in America and Beyond

I began my life in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, on an island filled with forests and wild rhododendrons. I was separated from my Worland family there at an early age. Recently, I was reunited with my family and learned of my heritage. And so, this journey to know my ancestors began. The Worlands, Gideons, Newtons, Conards... they were the colonists, the settlers, the pioneers. They fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War. November 16, 1733- Winifred Tant, widow of Vitus Herbert, dies at the age of 31 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. Winifred was born in St. Mary's in 1702, the daughter of John Tant & Margaret Drury. Her 4 year-old son, William Herbert, dies the same year.

To mulatto slave Nell, her freedom.
To son Vitus, personalty.
Testatrix states that her husband,--- by his will bequeathed his lands to be equally divided amongst his three sons William, Joseph and Vitus and the same bequests for want of due words only gives his younger sons Joseph and Vitus an estate for life therein. To correct this testatrix desires that each of sons Joseph and Vitus may have an equal share in lands left them by their father.
To son Joseph, one share of personal estate on condition he make over to his brother Vitus and hrs., when of age, one share of the land he shall inherit by his father's will or as heir to his brother William, deceased.
" Elizabeth Wallis, an orphan girl, her freedom, dues and personalty when she comes to age, on condition she claims nothing for schooling promised her by husband, ---.

October 22, 1733- Christiana Gulielma Penn, only child of William Penn III, by his first wife, Christiana Forbes, and after the death of her half-brother, Springett Penn, the only surviving representative of the elder line of the descendants of William Penn, the Founder, was born October 22, 1733, in London, Middlesex, England.
She was brought up in the family of her maternal grandfather, Alexander Forbes, at Dowgate Hill, their London Home, and at Auchorties, Scotland, the ancestral estate of the Forbes family.
Her mother, Christiana Forbes, died November 1, 1733, within  a year of her marriage, soon after the birth of her daughter.

July 15, 1733- My seventh great granduncle, Abraham Doolittle, dies at the age of 37 in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut.
Abraham was born in 1695 to Samuel Doolittle & Mary Cornwall. At the age of 30, he married his first cousin, Martha Cornwall, daughter of William Cornwall & Mary Thompson. Following Abraham's death, Martha wed Abishai Marks.
Joseph Clark, in the following record, was the husband of Abraham's first cousin, Miriam Cornwall, and the father of the infant Joseph who died later in the month.

May 1733, Connecticut

May 2, 1733- My ninth great grandaunt, Esther Cornwall, dies at the age of 83 in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut.
Esther, daughter of William Cornwall & Mary Bailey, was born  in Hartford, Connecticut in 1650. She first married John Wilcox. John Wilcox was a "payle maker", and has also been listed as fence viewer, grand levy man, and townsman.  John owned many tracts of land around town. Wilcox was well along in years when he was married for the fourth time, to Esther Cornwall. She was twenty-one years of age, and he was in his sixties. Esther was two years younger than John's daughter Sarah Ensign. 
 They had three children: Ephraim, Esther, and Mary. Most of the Wilcoxes in America are descended from Ephraim.
John Wilcox died May 26, 1676. Esther survived him by fifty-seven years. She was married secondly to John Stow of Middletown.

May 15, 1733- My eighth great granduncle, Captain Joseph Doolittle, dies at the age of 66 in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut.
Joseph, son of Abraham Doolittle & Abigail Moss, was born in Wallingford, Connecticut in 1667. In 1690, he married Sarah Brown. The marriage was performed by Thomas Yale, Esquire. As a widower, at the age of 53, he took a second wife, Elizabeth Holt.

Joseph served as a deputy in Wallingford, Connecticut 1713-1716.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I William Hayden, Senr.of Sainte Mary's County in the Province of Maryland Planter being weak of Body but of sound and perfect Memory and knowing the uncertainty of this Transitory life I do think it Meet and Convenient to settle things in order for a Better (sentence ends here)

First and principally I bequeath my Soul to Almighty God my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by whose Meritourius Death and passion I hope to obtain Everlasting Life and my Body to the Earth from whence it came to be Decently buried as my Executrix hereafter Nominated and Appointed shall think Meet and Convenient and for Worldly Estate it has pleased God of his Goodness to lend me I do give and dispose of as followeth in ,manner and form following Vizt.

March 17, 1733- My eighth great grandfather, James French, dies at the age of 83 in the Newtown One Hundred, St Mary's County, Maryland.
James French was born in 1650 in Galoway County, Ireland.  He was from a distinguished French family, long the Mayors of Galoway.  They originated as a Norman family and immigrated to Ireland before 1400.
In 1671, he was transported to Maryland by Thomas Notley. He arrived under indenture, and in 1674 was listed as servant in the inventory of Captain Luke Gardiner.
In Maryland, he married Elizabeth Meekin, the daughter of William Meekin & Margaret Beard. It was through this marriage that he became the possessor of 129 acres of "Wolver Hampton" which bordered on "Hopton Park". James French owned 3 tracts of land in New Town, St. Mary's County, Maryland, consisting of 379 acres.  He apparently bought 100 acres of this land from the heirs of Authur Thompson in 1707.  His daughter, Mary, was married to Robert Thompson, who would have been an heir of Authur Thompson, but was deceased prior to Authur's death.

In the name of God, Amen, I, James French of St.Mary's County______ being weak in body but of sound mind & memory, blessed be God, do make this my last Will & Testament in form as follows:_____
I give & bequeath unto my beloved grandson, John French, to him and his heirs forever, one hundred
& ten acres of land to be laid out on the West side of my land & also on the west side of a Branch unto my well beloved grand child, Mary Leake, wife of John Leake, to her and the heirs of her body lawfully begotten

February 1733, Pennsylvania

February 24, 1733- My sixth great grandparents, Anthony Conard and Sarah Hatfield, are married at Gwynedd Meeting, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.


Minutes: at our Monthly Meeting held at Gwynedd the 26 of the 2 mo 1733

Rowland Hugh and Ellin Robert Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Jane Lewis and Alice Griffith are desired to attend the Marriage and bring their account to the next Meeting.
 

Anthony Connard and Sarah Hatfield Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Jane Robert and Elizabeth Ellis are desired to attend the Marriage and bring their account to the Next Meeting.
 

Moses Peters and Martha Thomas Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Jane Lewis and Jane Nailor are desired to attend the marriage and bring their account next Meeting.
 

William Spencer and Elizabeth Lewis Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Catherine William and Jane Lewis are desired to attend the Marriage and bring their report next Meeting.
 

John Jones and Gainor Humbery [sic, should read Humphrey] Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the first time - Ann Roberts and Jane Jones are appointed to inspect into her clearness and Conversation and bring report to the next meeting.
 

John Griffith and Ann Jones Declared their intention of marriage with each other the first time - Anne Foulk and Mary Roberts are Desired to inspect into her Clearness and Conversation and bring report to the next Meeting.
 

The women friends appointed Last Meeting to attend the Last Marriage report it was orderly accomplished.
 

The several preparatives belonging to this Meeting having the weighty service of visiting families under consideration have for Gwynedd chose Alice Griffith, Gwen Morris, Anne Roberts, Ellin Evans - for Plymouth Ellin Meredith and Rachel Potts - for the swamp Ann Foulk and Catherine Ball - for Oley Jane Ellis and Abigail Wiley.

Jane Lewis and Margaret Humphrey are appointed to attend the Next Quarterly Meeting at Philadelphia

February 26, 1733- Dennis Conrad and Ann Knight are married in Abington Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

February 28, 1733- Mary Tyson is born to John Tyson & Priscilla Naylor in Upper Dublin, Montgomery, Pennsylvania.

(Anthony Conard and Dennis Conrad are first cousins. Mary Tyson is their second cousin.
Dennis Conrad is my first cousin 8 times removed. Mary Tyson is my second cousin 8 times removed. Our common ancestors are Thones Kunders & Elin Magdalen Tyson and Mathias Dohrs & Agnes Neesgen Op den Graeff.)
