The Worland Family in America and Beyond

I began my life in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, on an island filled with forests and wild rhododendrons. I was separated from my Worland family there at an early age. Recently, I was reunited with my family and learned of my heritage. And so, this journey to know my ancestors began. The Worlands, Gideons, Newtons, Conards... they were the colonists, the settlers, the pioneers. They fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War. March 1740, Connecticut

March 3, 1740- Lois Wright is born to Jonas Wright & Bathsheba Goffe in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. She would die young.
Reuben Tuttle is born to Ezekiel Tuttle & Susannah Merriman in New Haven, Connecticut.

March 5, 1740- Hannah Cornwall, daughter of Benjamin Cornwall & Mary Ward, dies at the age of  4 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

March 26, 1740- My eighth great granduncle, Theophilus Doolittle, dies at the age of 61 in Wallingford, New Haven, Connecticut.
Born in 1678, Theophilus was the youngest child of Abraham & Abigail (Moss) Doolittle. He was just 12 years old when his father died. When he came of age, his father's estate was divided up, and he inherited considerable land. He settled at Wallingford, and became a farmer.
In 1699 he married Thankful Hall; service performed by Samuel Street. Following her death in 1715, he wed Elizabeth Howe.

August 1738, Connecticut

August 11, 1738- Mindwell Cornwall is born to Benjamin Cornwall & Mary Ward in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. She will not survive until adulthood, dying at age 4.

August 12, 1738- Jesse Doolittle is born to Ebenezer Doolittle & Lydia Warner in Wallingford, New Haven, Connecticut.

(Mindwell Cornwall is my first cousin 9 times removed. Our common ancestors are John Cornwall & Martha Peck.
Jesse Doolittle is my second cousin 8 times removed. Our common ancestors are Abraham Doolittle & Abigail Moss.)

February 1738, Connecticut

February 1, 1738- Phebe Stow is born to Samuel Stow & Mary Ward in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

February 12, 1738- Noah Dowd is born to Janna Dowd & Desire Cornwall in Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut. He will not survive childhood, dying at age 4.

February 14, 1738-  Lois Tuttle is born to Ezekiel Tuttle & Susannah Merriman in New Haven, Connecticut.

February 28, 1738- Mehitabel Doolittle is born to Hezekiah Doolittle & Hephzibah Tyler in Wallingford, New Haven, Connecticut.

June 1737, Rhode Island

June 6, 1737- Marmaduke Ward is born to Joseph Ward & Sarah Weeden in Newport County, Rhode Island.

(Ward name meaning: English: occupational name for a watchman or guard, from Old English weard ‘guard’)

 June 8, 1737- Barnett Sisson marries Catherine Briggs in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island.

(Marmaduke Ward is my second cousin 8 times removed. Barnett Sisson is his first cousin once removed. Barnett Sisson is my first cousin 9 times removed. Our common ancestors are George Sisson & Sarah Lawton. )

February 1736, Connecticut

February 4, 1736- The town of Middletown, Connecticut appoints a conservator over William Cornwall, 23 year-old son of William Cornwall & Martha Thompson, because of sickness and poor husbandry. He later became a seafaring man and lived in Newport.

In the same year, his cousin once removed, William Cornwall, son of William Cornwall & Mary Bull, deeded about two hundred and fifty acres of land to his son William, and about one hundred and fifty acres of land, with his house and barn, to his son Andrew, and divided between them his interest in the grist mill and his rights in the undivided lands of the town of Middleton.

February 9, 1736- Christopher Todd marries Hannah Tuttle in New Haven, Connecticut.

February 15, 1736- Desire Dowd is born to Janna Dowd & Desire Cornwall in Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut.

February 16, 1736- Benjamin Cornwall and twin sister, Hannah Cornwall, are born to Benjamin Cornwall & Mary Ward in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

(William Cornwall is my first cousin 9 times removed. Benjamin Cornwall and Hannah Cornwall are his first cousins. Desire Dowd is their first cousin once removed. Desire Dowd is my second cousin 8 times removed. Benjamin Cornwall and Hannah Cornwall are my first cousins 9 times removed. Our common ancestors are John Cornwall & Martha Peck.

February 13, 1734- Hezekiah Doolittle marries Hephzibah Tyler in Wallingford, New Haven, Connecticut. They resided at Wallingford till about 1750 when they moved to Litchfield, Connecticut.

February 26, 1734- Joseph Clark is born to Joseph Clark & Miriam Cornwall in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.


February 27, 1734- My eighth great granduncle, Benjamin Cornwall, marries Mary Ward in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

(Hezekiah Doolittle is my second cousin 8 times removed. Our common ancestor is Sergeant Abraham Doolittle.

August 17, 1731- Anne Peckham is born to Isaac Peckham & Jane Sisson in Middletown, Newport County, Rhode Island.
