The Worland Family in America and Beyond

I began my life in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, on an island filled with forests and wild rhododendrons. I was separated from my Worland family there at an early age. Recently, I was reunited with my family and learned of my heritage. And so, this journey to know my ancestors began. The Worlands, Gideons, Newtons, Conards... they were the colonists, the settlers, the pioneers. They fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War. February 1741, Pennsylvania

February 1741

 Matthias Lukens dies at the age of 40 in Pennsylvania.
In August of 1700, Mathias Lukens was born in Germantown to Jan Lucken & Mary Tyson.
Jan Lucken had settled in Philadelphia County in 1683. Jan had an old Bible, published in 1595 by Peter Sebastian. In this Bible, he wrote :
"1700 the 13th of ye 8a mo. Mathias Lucken was Born."

On February 24, 1721, when he was 20, Matthias married Ann Johnson, daughter of Richard Johnson & Margaret Millan. Ann survived him.
His Will, dated 18 Sep 1741, grants property of two grist mills and 108 acres to son John.
 Will Abstract:

LUCKEN, MATHIAS. Philadelphia County. Yeoman. 9 mo. 18, 1741. February 19, 1741. F.280.
Exec: Wife Anne and brother-in-law John Johnson (cooper). Children: Dirk, John, Daniel, Mary, Hannah and Ann. Witnesses: John Rush and John and Samuel Rose. Codicil dated 11 mo. 21, 1741. Same witnesses.

February 17, 1741

A son, Dennis, is born to Dennis Conrad and wife, Ann Knight, in Horsham Township, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The child does not survive, dying in 1742.

February 19, 1741

Ann Roberts is born to Thomas Roberts & Rachel Livezey in Bristol Township, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.


(Mathias Lukens is my first cousin 9 times removed. Dennis Conard is his grand nephew. Their common ancestors are Mathias Dohrs & Agnes Neesgen Op den Graeff.
Dennis Conard is my second cousin 7 times removed. Our common ancestors are Thone Kunders &
Elin Magadelen Tyson.
Ann Roberts is my third cousin 6 times removed. Our common ancestors are Thomas Potts & Elizabeth Baset. )

August 1738, Pennsylvania

August 5, 1738- Isaac Conard is born to Dennis Conard & Ann Knight in Abington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

August 28, 1738- Margaret Roberts, wife of Isaac Cadwallader, dies at the age of 26 in Horsham, Pennsylvania. She leaves a two-year-old son, Isaac, and her husband will die within the following year.

August 30, 1738- Joseph Davis marries Elizabeth Shoemaker in Germantown, Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth Shoemaker is my third cousin 8 times removed. Our common ancestors are Hermann Op den Graeff & Gretjen Driessen Pletjes and Pieter Dohrs & Lysgen Grietes.
Margaret Roberts is my second cousin 7 times removed. Our common ancestors are Thomas Potts & Elizabeth Baset.)

February 1733, Pennsylvania

February 24, 1733- My sixth great grandparents, Anthony Conard and Sarah Hatfield, are married at Gwynedd Meeting, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.


Minutes: at our Monthly Meeting held at Gwynedd the 26 of the 2 mo 1733

Rowland Hugh and Ellin Robert Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Jane Lewis and Alice Griffith are desired to attend the Marriage and bring their account to the next Meeting.
 
Anthony Connard and Sarah Hatfield Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Jane Robert and Elizabeth Ellis are desired to attend the Marriage and bring their account to the Next Meeting.
 
Moses Peters and Martha Thomas Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Jane Lewis and Jane Nailor are desired to attend the marriage and bring their account next Meeting.
 
William Spencer and Elizabeth Lewis Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the second time - Catherine William and Jane Lewis are desired to attend the Marriage and bring their report next Meeting.
 
John Jones and Gainor Humbery [sic, should read Humphrey] Declared their intention of Marriage with each other the first time - Ann Roberts and Jane Jones are appointed to inspect into her clearness and Conversation and bring report to the next meeting.
 
John Griffith and Ann Jones Declared their intention of marriage with each other the first time - Anne Foulk and Mary Roberts are Desired to inspect into her Clearness and Conversation and bring report to the next Meeting.
 
The women friends appointed Last Meeting to attend the Last Marriage report it was orderly accomplished.
 
The several preparatives belonging to this Meeting having the weighty service of visiting families under consideration have for Gwynedd chose Alice Griffith, Gwen Morris, Anne Roberts, Ellin Evans - for Plymouth Ellin Meredith and Rachel Potts - for the swamp Ann Foulk and Catherine Ball - for Oley Jane Ellis and Abigail Wiley.

(Anthony Conard and Dennis Conrad are first cousins. Mary Tyson is their second cousin.
