The Worland Family in America and Beyond

I began my life in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, on an island filled with forests and wild rhododendrons. I was separated from my Worland family there at an early age. Recently, I was reunited with my family and learned of my heritage. And so, this journey to know my ancestors began. The Worlands, Gideons, Newtons, Conards... they were the colonists, the settlers, the pioneers. They fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War. February 1741, Rhode Island

February 1741- Joseph Babcock dies at the age of 60 in Westerly, Kings County, Rhode Island.
Joseph was born in 1681 to John Babcock and Mary Lawton.
In 1704, he married Rebecca Stanton.

February 13, 1741- Elizabeth Tripp, wife of William Wood, dies at the age of 53 in Newport County, Rhode Island.
Born in Portsmouth on November 21, 1687, Elizabeth was the daughter of James Tripp and Mercy Lawton.
In 1708, when she was 21, she first married Richard Mitchell of Great Britain. He died in 1722. In April of 1734, she married William Wood.

(First cousins, Elizabeth Tripp and Joseph Babcock, are my second cousins 10 times removed. Our common ancestors are George Lawton & Isbell Smith.)

November 1739, Rhode Island

November 4, 1739- Caleb Sherman and Elizabeth Lawton are married in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island.

November 10, 1739- Mary Mitchell is born to James Mitchell & Anna Folger in Newport, Rhode Island.

November 11, 1739- Rebecca Brown is born to Jeremiah Brown & Elizabeth Sisson in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island.

(Rebecca Brown is my second cousin 8 times removed. Our common ancestors are George Sisson & Sarah Lawton.
Caleb Sherman is my second cousin 9 times removed. Elizabeth Lawton is his second cousin once removed. Elizabeth Lawton is my third cousin 8 times removed. Our common ancestors are Thomas Lawton & Elizabeth Salisbury. 
Mary Mitchell is my fourth cousin 8 times removed. Our common ancestors are George Lawton & Isbell Smith.)

April 1734, Rhode Island

April 18, 1734- William Wood marries Elizabeth Tripp, widow of Richard Mitchell, in Rhode Island.  

April 22, 1734-  George Sanford, son of William Sanford & Hope Sisson, dies at the age of 22 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island. 


(Elizabeth Tripp is my second cousin 10 times removed. Our common ancestors are George Lawton & Isabell Smith. George Sanford is her second cousin once removed. George Sanford is my first cousin 9 times removed. Our common ancestors are George Sisson & Sarah Lawton.)
