August 1740, Maryland

August 16, 1740- My fifth great grandfather, William Hardy, dies at the age of 43 in Prince Georges County, Maryland.
The son of William Hardy & Elizabeth Hayden, William was born in Charles County, Maryland. In 1728, at the age of 31, William married Ann Stimson. There is evidence that he was married earlier, to a woman of the last name Hoggins. Ann had passed away in 1738, at the age of 36. William's death left the five youngest children orphans, and in his will he directed his eldest son by his first wife, 23 year-old George, to see to their care.
William was a planter.

William Hardy's Will, dated 8 Aug 1740, Will book DD-1, p 222, Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD:
"I, William Hardy of Prince Georges Co, Planter... to my son George my negro wench Anne... to dau Rachel the first child Anne brings... to son Solomon my boy Nicles (Nicholas)... to my daughter Elizabeth my negro boy Luke... to sons George, William, Henry, Benjamin, Solomon and my daughters Mary Anne, Rachel and Elizabeth all my chattells and movables to be equally divided... to son Henry all my whereing (sic) close... bro George Hardey... son George to be Exec and to take the five youngest children to keare (sic) for them until they are of age..."
