March 4, 1733- The Last Will of James French,
St. Marys County, Maryland
In the name of God, Amen, I, James French of St.Mary's County______ being weak in body but of sound mind & memory, blessed be God, do make this my last Will & Testament in form as follows:_____I give & bequeath unto my beloved grandson, John French, to him and his heirs forever, one hundred & ten acres of land to be laid out on the West side of my land & also on the west side of a Branch unto my well beloved grand child, Mary Leake, wife of John Leake, to her and the heirs of her body lawfully begotten
forever.
Item: My Will is that my good & trusty servant, James Kirby shall be free from servitude on the day of my death.
Item: My Will is after all my just debts are paid, all that remains of my personal Estate be equally divided amongst all my grandchildren.
Item: I constitute & appoint my said grandchild, John French, my whole & sole executor of this my last Will & Testament, in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal on this fourth day of March, in the year of our Lord, 1733

John Thompson and Elizabeth French, two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Will, being duly & solemnly sworn on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God, depose & say that they saw the testator, James French, sign the foregoing Will and heard him publish and declare the same to be his last Will & Testament that at the time of his doing so he was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind and memory and that they subscribed their respective names as witnesses to the said will in the presence of John French, grandson & heir at law, which same, John French did not object to the ____of the said Will.
Sworn to before me Tho. Aisquith, Deputy County Clerk of St. Mary's County.

1741 Maryland
1741- Thomas Newton, Sr., dies in St. Mary's County, Maryland.
(Thomas Newton is my 6th great grandfather.)

Thomas Newton, Senior. Nuncupative Will:
The Last Will of Thomas Newton, St. Mary's County SS December ye 6th 1741:
Then came James Brown, and Lidia Raley and made Oath On the holy Evangels of Almighty God that they heard Thomas Newton Senor the fourteenth Day of this instant December Lying then very sick and sick as to die who departed this life the fifth of this instant, say and declare that he gave to his son Thomas Newton all his wearing Cloaths and six hundred pounds of Tobacco, and to Elanor Leake he gave one Bed and furniture, and to his grand son Joseph Newton one white heffer and to his Grandson Clement Newton one heffer and his Daughter in Law Elizabeth Newton two hundred pounds of Tobacco due to him from Walter Davis or thirteen yards and halfe of fine White Linen in his Chist, and to his wife, Catherine Newton, two hundred and twenty pound of Tobacco, due him from the widow Hesler and her sons Excepting thirty of said Tobacco he gave to John Henning and to his wife Catherine and his son Clement he gave one Young horse between them ~~~ The Day and year above Said came James Brown and Ledia Raley and made Oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God that they heard the said Thomas Newton Declare the foregoing as his Last Will, and at the time of his sodoing he was to the best of their knowledge, and apprehension of sound, and disposing mind and memory Sworn to before me~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tho Aisquith Depty Comiss ry of St. Marys County

November 5, 1760- Clement Newton, paternal grandfather of Joseph Pike Newton, dies in St. Mary's, Maryland.

Will of Clement Newton, Signed: June 30, 1760; Proved: November 5, 1760
~ Item: Imprimis I give and bequeath to my several Creditors their Just Claims
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Newton all my Lands.
~ Item: Whereas Thomas Newton Left in my care two Heifers, one for my son Joseph and one for my son Clement, my will is that they be paid them before the apprasement of my Estate
~ Item: Where Walter Davis left in my care a large black Walnut Table Oval made for my Daughter Anne, I will that the same be hers & not appraised in my Estate.
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my son Clement one young gray gelding.
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my son Albane, my writing Desk
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my son Bernard, one gray stone Coult & a pr of silver Clasps.
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my son Gaberil one hanging Leaf Square Walnut Table
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary a feather Bed, and furniture, to be paid her of the value of my second best Bed & furniture
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my Daughter Bibiana a Black Walnut Oval Table
~ Item: I give and bequeath to my son Aldebert, one Horse called Jack Gray colored
~ Item: I give & bequeath to my Daughter Immaranchaeunor, Sining wheel
~ Item: whereas my wife is now with child, I give and bequeath to the child unborn one Choat
~ Item: where the Sundry Legacies above mentioned are of an Equal Value my will is that all the Legacies that are of Less value, than the best be made up equal out of my Estate, and the Remaining part of my Estate be Equally Divided amongst all my Children.
~ Item: and to the true performance of this my Last will and Testament I nominate Constitute ordain & appoint, my son Joseph Newton, my solo Executor, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand, and affixed my seal, this 30th June Anno que Dom 1760.~~~~~~~
